November 2009 Mexico Cross-Fit Highlights!

Tiger Adventure Race Start Line Hello Athletes!

What better way to launch the TIGER Athletics Blog than with the Nov Mexico Cross-Fit trip highlights!?  What a success!  Let’s start there!  Participants:  Jennifer Neuman, Jennifer Beske, Jennifer Petersen, Lauren Anderson, Jay & Patti Turbas, Tom & Andrea Oden, The Haqq Group – Chris, Ana, Jeff, Steve.  What a great group!

You are wondering what went on?  Oh, here you go!

Day 1:  Good Morning Sunshine!  Woke up the body with Athletic Prep Movement mixed with Core to fire the inner abdominal wall for rest of the training.  Onto a 1/2 mile beach run warm-up, leading into Akumal for change of terrain and worked on base and endurance cardio for 5+ miles, followed by kayaking (& it wasn’t sight seeing – hello core & upper body!)   Ended the day with Yoga – stretching & lengthening the muscles.  Off to dinner we go!

Day 2:  Hello!  Game on, everyone is ready.  Yesterday was a nice introduction, let’s go!  Woke up the body with Athletic Prep mixed with Core, onto an AT Interval Mix of 5+ Miles, Beach Obstacle Course, & Kayaking for 1+ miles- what?  Yes, that’s right!  Yoga was next on the list at the end of the day….then off to dinner.  Namaste everyone!

Day 3:  Hola Amigos!   Coffee, tea, water, gatorade, let’s go!  Stretch, fire the core, game on.  Training plan today:  open the eyes of the beginners and intermediates, challenge the advance and elite to the next level.  Increase stamina of base endurance and 1:1 builds  – why?  To build onto the last couple of days, teach your legs to turn over, and well, make you feel it, pushing you out-of-the-box and out of the gym scene, not to mention teaching your body how to burn fat over sugar, while elongating the muscles.  Next you ask – an Athletic H20 Workout, just what we all needed – it shocked our upper body, core and released all toxins and eliminating any soreness.  Yoga ended the evening, and by now we are all burning 1500 calories a day and in need of cocktails!

Day 4:  Still going strong….warm up is in order.  Prep Movement was much needed:)  Everyone enjoyed the 45 minute warm up/core mix to jump start the body this day!   Onto a 1/2 mile Beach Run which leads into Beach Drills focusing on all 3 planes of motion – hello lower body!  Sprints, builds, shuffles, hi-knees, back pedalling, plyometrics and more….we want more.  Endurance is next….5+ miles…everyone feels good (well, that’s what they told us!)   Athletic H2O Workout is next, hit the pool – Andrea was always head first! :)   We spent the day at the most amazing beach, needless to say, no one wanted to do Yoga – the night was young.   We mentioned there might be an adventure race the next day…..

Day 5:  Adventure Race Day.  Good Morning!  Hmmm, you all look tired!?  Is everyone ready for the unadvertised mini-Adventure Race?  Let’s go!?  It was points based.  Passion and competition came out in everyone, as did team work.  The Course:  Kayak 1/2 mile to next bay – dock it and run 1/2 mile beach, Kayak back to start line; 10 min break before run.  Run was handicapped to encourage the beginners/intermediates, but also challenge the elite and advanced.  The run entailed 3 miles of mixed terrain- 1/2 mile beach run,  1/2 mile land, 1/2 mile beach (and back!!!)  Not so bad right, well then….upon your return were lounge chairs waiting for you – but not for you to sit in and chill.  Yep, part of the course.  Take them from point A to point B (down the beach)….there were no smiles in those pics:)  From there, to the pool, swim a couple laps then do some push ups.  You crossed the finished line – Congratulations to everyone – you earned it!!!!

In brief:  Trip was a huge hit!  For the individual, couple, and Tiger.  We pushed, you strived (perhaps beat your goal) = results.  Check out our photos on Flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/tigerathletics/ WHAT’S NEXT?  February:  We are hosting another trip Feb 10-15, 2010 (4 day training or 5 day training available!).  Contact us for more info!
